Spray guns for painting walls and ceilings with your own hands
To paint the surfaces did not take much time, and the coating turned out to be smooth, many use a spray gun for painting walls and ceilings. Construction shops offer a large selection of spray guns, among which you can choose the most convenient for work.
The principle of operation and advantages of the spray gun
All sprayers have a common principle of operation: from the spray gun under pressure, a stream of air enters the container, which picks up paint particles and sprays them on the surface. With the help of such a device, you can easily evenly apply water-based paint, whitewash or paintwork to the walls and ceiling.
All paint sprayers consist of the following elements:
- container for paint of any size;
- pray gun for wall painting main nozzle;
- dditional nozzle for fine spray;
- ealing needle;
- pray regulator;
- handle;
- a special screw that regulates the flow of paint into the sprayer;
- adjusting screw that supplies air.
The advantages of spray guns include:
- creating a smooth and even surface;
- low consumption of paint and varnish materials;
- high speed of surface painting;
- uniform distribution of liquids, which is why there are no streaks and smudges;
- the ability to process hard-to-reach places.
Types of paint sprayers
All sprayers on the principle of air supply are divided into three types:
- manual;
- pneumatic;
- electric.
Manual devices
Types of paint sprayers Devices with manual feeding are convenient to use for work in small rooms. They are characterized by a capacity of 200 ml / hour, simple operation and low cost.
Manual spray guns consist of a tank, a pump and a spray gun. With their help, the surfaces can be painted with water-based, water-lime and water-chalk paints.
Manual spray guns have several significant drawbacks:
- the pressure is not constant and not very high;
- restriction on the materials used;
- the lever must be pressed evenly, otherwise the staining will turn out to be of poor quality;
- low performance.
You can paint the walls faster and better with a hand spray gun than with a roller, but compared to other types of devices, the quality of its work is worse.
Pneumatic devices
Pneumatic paint sprayers are considered professional and may have a different fluid supply mechanism:
2. Manual sprayer Low volume and pressure. Super-efficient models that do not have very high pressure at both the inlet and outlet during operation. There is no need to buy a compressor with high power for them.
3. High volume and low pressure. The spray gun has a special nozzle design and a special device at the air channels. During its operation, the high pressure in the pistol at the outlet is slightly reduced.
4. High pressure. A simple preparation with a pressure during operation at the level of 5-6 bar. You can use any paint and varnish materials in it, and paint the surfaces yourself quickly and effectively.
5. Top feed. Devices with nylon or plastic tanks are characterized by a high speed of operation. Their disadvantage is that due to the container or hoses, the view can be limited.
6. Bottom feed. The design is distinguished by the lower location of the tank, which is made of metal. During the use of such a device, the gun should be held strictly horizontally.
With the help of a pneumatic device, you can quickly, evenly and efficiently apply coloring solutions. In addition, such models have many other advantages:
- high productivity (400 m2 / hour);
- the parameters can be customized for yourself;
- the paint is applied evenly, since the pressure is quite high;
- the ability to treat surfaces with different compositions.
The disadvantage of pneumatic spray guns is the need to purchase an additional compressor, otherwise the device will not work.
Electric models
Electric sprayers differ from other models in that the paint on the surface of them comes from the pressure created by the built-in pump.
How to choose sprayers Electrical appliances are easy to use, have compact dimensions and affordable prices, which attract home craftsmen. With their help, you can get a high-quality result in a short time. They are equipped with a flexible pipe that allows you to work at different angles and paint hard-to-reach places.
Construction markets offer a large selection of electric paint sprayers, among which you can choose a device with the appropriate parameters.
Making a spray gun with your own hands
Many home craftsmen make pulevizators for painting the ceiling with their own hands. With the appearance of ingenuity, a sprayer can turn out to be no worse than the factory one without much expense.
Spray gun from improvised parts
To make a simple device, you will need to prepare the following materials and tools:
- plastic bottle with a wide neck;
- a piece of styrofoam;
- gel pen with a rod;
- a sharp knife;
- drill.
Spray gun for emulsion paint from styrofoam, you need to cut out a part that should be a few millimeters larger than the size of the bottle neck. In the cut-out part, two holes are made on the top and side with a drill, which should intersect. The foam is recommended to be drilled, not pierced.
After the styrofoam is installed in the neck of the bottle, the body from the gel pen is inserted into its horizontal hole, and a rod is installed in the vertical one, which must first be freed from the contents. Instead of a handle, you can use metal rods with the same diameter.
The finished spray gun can be used to spray even thick paint. To regulate its operation, it is enough to shift the rods in relation to each other.
Spray bottle spray gun
A simple home paint sprayer can be obtained from the following parts:
- plastic bottle;
- aerosol container, the size of which must match the diameter of the bottle cap;
- pump from a bicycle or air mattress;
- the nipple with a cover from the bicycle camera.
In the upper part of the side of the bottle, a hole is made in which the nipple must be installed and glued. This element of the home spray gun will perform the function of pumping air mass.
From the can, you need to cut out the spray module with the valve. It is recommended to do this with a hacksaw. The valve is cold-welded to the plug so that the connection is sealed. The device will work under pressure, so there should be no holes in it.
Pulevizator for painting from a vacuum cleaner
Painting the walls or ceiling in a large room with a hand spray gun is quite problematic. To facilitate the work and at the same time not to spend the family budget on the purchase of a factory sprayer, you can make an automated device with your own hands. To do this, you can use an old vacuum cleaner, in which the hose can be connected to both the "blow" hole and the "blow" hole.
Stages of work:
2. Prepare a plastic bottle with a wide neck.
3. Cut out the foam part, the size of which should be equal to the size of the neck of the bottle.
4. Manual spray gun In the foam cork, you need to make holes and insert them at right angles to the tube from the dropper or ballpoint pen. One tube will supply compressed air, and the second will ensure the flow of paint.
5. Be sure to make another hole in the foam, through which air will enter the tank.
6. From the foam, cut another, but already large plug, with which you should connect the sprayer and the hose from the vacuum cleaner. In the traffic jam, you first need to make a hole for the handle body.
You can test the operation of a self-made sprayer under a pressure of no more than three atmospheres.
The spray gun from the vacuum cleaner is ready and can be used to spray paint. Before using it, it is necessary to clean and rinse the old vacuum cleaner from dirt and dust.
Technique of painting the ceiling with a spray gun
Before starting work, you need to take out of the room or cover all the furniture with plastic. Most often, the ceilings are painted with water-based paint, which must be diluted with water before use. A homogeneous mixture should be obtained, so it is recommended to use a construction mixer to mix the paint. Color is added to the finished composition, and everything is well mixed.
When the paint is ready, you should wear rubber gloves, safety glasses and a respirator to protect your eyes and respiratory organs.
Painting procedure:
2. To paint the ceiling with a paint sprayer, keep the nozzle 30-50 cm from the surface. The jet should be directed perpendicular to the ceiling.
3. Ceiling painting technique Work should start from the corner near the window, mentally dividing the surface into squares that should be equal to the length of the hand.
4. Painting should be done at the same pace, without staying long in one place, otherwise the paint layer will be thick, and the solution will flow off in drops.
5. If you plan to paint the ceiling in several layers, then the next layer can be applied only after the previous one has dried well. Otherwise, the water-based emulsion will begin to peel off.
6. If bumps or grains have formed on the surface after painting, then the paint composition may have been contaminated. To correct the situation, you can use fine or medium-grained sandpaper, which will need to plaster the entire ceiling.
7. If the layer turns out to be thick and the paint begins to peel off, then the places of detachment will need to be primed, having previously cleaned them with sandpaper. When the primer dries, it is covered with paint. In order not to see the corrections, you will need to cover the entire ceiling with a thin layer of paint for one more time.
